Future of farming to be discussed at Mancos library

Local farmers share tips on keeping agricultural career paths alive
Local farmers will talk ways to keep agricultural career paths alive at the Mancos Public Library on Jan. 24.

Local farmers will lead a presentation at the Mancos Public Library on Thursday regarding the future of farming and agricultural career paths.

“Launching the Next Generation of Farmers and Ranchers” will be led by Dustin Stein and Jack and Patricia Burk, who will talk about the difficulties facing startup farmers and ranchers, like land and equipment costs, and share some of the tools and programs available designed to encourage retirees to support aspiring farmers.

The Burks are Mancos residents and owners of Stubborn Farm and Burk Beef. They started a partnership with Stein as a way to help launch his agricultural career and to keep their business in operation after they retire. Stein currently serves as their ranch manager.

The presentation is scheduled to begin 7 p.m. at the library, at 211 W. First St.
