Free wildfire risk assessments offered

Firefighters bulldozed a line on the right side of this house, which helped stopped the 416 Fire from advancing through the subdivision. Falls Creek Ranch does significant fire mitigation every year.

Alex Graf, of Wildfire Adapted Partnership, this week encouraged homeowners to sign up for free wildfire risk assessments.

During a site visit, staff will identify potential for structural ignitions, and explain how to create defensible space.

“Embers are the reason for the majority of houses burned during a wildfire,” Graf said in a press release.

Areas vulnerable to embers include wood decks, dry grass under decks, wood piles, vegetation, wood roofs and house vents without screens.

“We will come up with a strategic plan to reduce wildfire risk on your property,” Graf said.

Grant money may be available to help cover a portion of the wildfire mitigation costs.
