It’s extremely unfortunate that the Four Corners Free Press is shutting down. There is really no other print entity that contains a mix of information and opinion from both the left and right.
The only chance for opposing factions to have any understanding (not necessarily agreement) of or with each other, is to have some kind of communication. Gail Binkly and the Four Corners Free Press gave us a place to start.
One of the most important freedoms afforded by the Bill of Rights is speech, including discussion and debate. When we stop speaking and listening to each other, we lose all ability to communicate. And without communication, there is no possibility of finding common ground.
We live in a wonderful, but imperfect country. There is no place I would rather live. The founders of this country understood the importance of the will of the people, by vote, not the will of one person, the king and the necessity of a Constitution as the law of the land. While we may disagree with some of their ideas, they have held us together, even overcoming a civil war.
We now seem intent on destroying the country we love. Given what all the generations before us have lived through, will we be the ones who are unable to communicate and find our way together?
