Four Corners Community Band to resume practice

The Four Corners Community Band will resume practice from 6:30-8:30 p.m. every Monday beginning Jan. 14 at the First Baptist Church in Cortez.

The voluntary band, made up of members ranging in age from 18 to nearly 80, requires that participants attend 60 percent of practices and join with at least high school experience in band music. Annual dues are small.

The band plays a variety of concert band styles, including classical, jazz, television, theme music, rock ’n’ roll and Broadway, at venues throughout the Four Corners area.

“Though the membership has grown significantly in the past few years, we are still short on flutes and clarinets, and especially, percussionists,” band director Mark Allen said in a press release. “Feel free to attend any Monday night practice as an observer, if you would like to check it out.”

The new season begins Jan. 14 and includes music from the upcoming Disney movie “Aladdin” and medleys of hits from both the 1890s and 1960s.
