Fort Lewis College closed its campus Thursday afternoon after an unidentified person made a bomb threat directed toward the Art Building on campus.

The threat was reported about 2:45 p.m. and was cleared about 4:20 p.m., said Lauren Pope, spokeswoman for the college. Police and firefighters found no evidence of a bomb, she said.

The campus was closed “out of an abundance of caution,” according to a tweet sent by the college. A follow-up tweet and Facebook post advised people to evacuate the campus.

Pope said the Art Building remained closed Thursday night but will reopen Friday morning.

She said it was an unidentified person who called the 911 dispatch center and made the threat.

Fort Lewis College Police Department, Durango Police Department and Durango Fire Protection District responded to the call.

“All threats are taken serious,” Pope said. “We have great partners in Durango PD and Durango fire to rapidly respond for the safety of our community.”
