The Forest Service recently put out a Request For Proposals, encouraging outfitters and guiders to apply to offer their services at the McPhee Boat Ramp in Dolores for the 2026 season.
These services “include but are not limited to … motorized and non-motorized boat rentals, boat slip buoy and dock rentals, guided reservoir fishing and concession service,” according to a news release.
“All equipment and facilities, including marina buildings, dock facilities, buoys and related operational equipment will be the responsibility of the permit holder,” it said.
A major goal of the Forest Service is “providing recreation services and facilities,” which outfitter and guiding services help it achieve.
Importantly, those services “offer diverse opportunities for the recreating public to experience the dynamic landscape of the San Juan National Forest,” the RFP said.
“McPhee Reservoir is an important place for the Dolores Ranger District,” said Dolores District Ranger Nick Mustoe in a news release. “The public expects services and recreational opportunities befitting such a place. We are looking for partners to help us meet those expectations now and into the future.”
