Forest officials have re-issued a trail closure along the northern four miles of the Calico Trail for a fourth year. The closed section begins at the point where it intersects with Forest Service Road 471, Eagle Peak road.
The northern portion of the trail will be temporarily closed to all visitors, including pedestrian, horse, mountain bike and motorcycle use. During this time, trail maintenance projects will be completed in an effort to reopen the trail.
Winter motorized and non-motorized over-snow recreation, including snowmobile use, will not be affected by the closure. Other exemptions will include federal, state, and local officers, members of organized fire and rescue operations in the performance of official duties, and Forest Service maintenance crews.
Signs will be posted notifying visitors of the closure. Violators risk fines up to $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, and up to six months imprisonment.
