For Pets’ Sake to hold Turkey Trot fundraiser in Cortez

Pet owners and their dogs run in Parque de Vida for the 14th annual Turkey Trot last Thanksgiving.

For Pets’ Sake Humane Society will hold its 15th Annual Cortez Turkey Trot fundraiser on Thanksgiving Day.

Registration starts at 9 a.m., Nov. 22 at the Parque de Vida pavilion behind the Cortez Recreation Center, 425 Roger Smith Ave.

The 1-mile fun run/walk for people and their pets starts at 10 a.m., regardless of the weather. The entry fee is $20 and includes a cool commemorative T-shirt.

Costumes for all are encouraged, Sally Jo Leitner said in a news release, and prizes will be awarded for categories including fastest people and pets, best and best-coordinated costumes, best pet trick and most unusual pet to cross the finish line.

“Come on out to exercise and socialize before your big meal,” she said.

All proceeds benefit the Humane Society and their work to assist the dogs and cats in Montezuma and Dolores counties. For more information, call 970-565-PETS/7387.
