Fire destroys Dolores home and barn

Electrical issue suspected cause, sheriff says

A fire destroyed a trailer home and barn Monday morning southwest of Dolores, according to Montezuma County Sheriff Steve Nowlin.

Fire crews from Dolores and Lewis-Arriola responded to 14856 County Road 26 for a report of a trailer on fire. It was parked in a barn structure, which also caught fire, Nowlin said.

The home and barn were destroyed, he said. The resident was identified as Garett Leavell and was not home at the time of the fire. There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is suspected to be an electrical issue from a light fixture, Nowlin said.

“They lost everything,” he said. Victim service information was provided.

The 14000 block of Road 26 was closed until the fire was contained. No other structures were threatened and there were no evacuations.

Montezuma County deputies also responded to the incident.
