Fire bans lifted

Restrictions still in place in county, <br/>Mesa Verde

The Bureau of Land Management and the United States Forest service have lifted fire restrictions on the lands they manage in Southwest Colorado.

At Mesa Verde National Park, fire restrictions have been removed from the park entrance to the Far View area, including Morefield Campground, Far View Lodge and other developed areas. Fires within permanent fire pits or fire grates within developed recreation sites are again allowed in those areas.

The Park Service fire ban remains in effect south of the Far View area, including Chapin and Wetherill Mesas, which have received less rain. Smoking outside a vehicle and open fires continue to be prohibited in those areas.

A fire ban remains in place on private land in Montezuma County. The Montezuma County commissioners did not meet on Monday because it was the fifth Monday of the month.
