This summer, 502 lunches were served to local children as part of the Mancos FoodShare summer lunch program.

Food was served by volunteers from the Mount Lookout Grange at the Mancos Public Library on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The program aimed to fill a food gap for students reliant on school lunches during the summer months when class is out of session.

The program took place from June 4 to Aug. 8, and was open to Mancos children ages 18 and younger. Lunches served included peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, fresh fruit, carrots, and a choice of pretzels, dried fruit, or trail mix, according to volunteer Roger Woody.
