Festival is big fundraiser for Greater Dolores Action group

The Dolores River Festival is the major fundraiser of the year for Greater Dolores Action, a volunteer group dedicated to community projects and river health.

"We are a project driven, non-political organization with a mission to improve the Dolores area through enhancement projects," said GDA president Scott Clow.

Some of their more recent festival funded projects include:

Informational signs along the Dolores River path, the swimming hole off of Eighth Street and at popular fishing locations.

Partnering with the Dolores River Boating Advocates on studying the potential for a new boat ramp on the Dolores River near the confluence of the Westfork River.

Removing old cars from the Dolores River, especially around "car-body alley" near the Colorado State Wildlife Area.

Festival funds were used to partner with the Town of Dolores, the U.S. Forest Service and others to install fish habitat and stream restoration structures between the 4th Street bridge and the Lost Canyon confluence.

Funding on an annual basis for the Slickrock Gage on the Lower Dolores River. They plan to donate at least $1,000 yearly to keep the gage operational.

Maintaining the playground in Joe Rowell Park.

Clow encourages participation in GDA, and to stop by their booth at the festival to learn more and sign up to volunteer.

"We all rely on the river, whether you boat on it, fish on it, drink from it or farm with it," he said.
