The 5th annual Pretty in Pink Fashion show raised $12,000 for the Women’s Cancer Coalition this year– $2,000 more than its initial goal of $10,000.

“We had attendance of over 200 people. It was definitely our largest crowd in the five years we’ve been putting it on,” said event organizer Tiffani Waters.

The show itself was also longer, she noted, and in addition to the latest fall style trends, it featured home fashions and a fashion advice segment.

“We also had a live auction that went amazing. All the items were donated, and had everything from a quilt donated by the Cortez Quilters to a pink breast cancer awareness handgun,” she said.

All funds raised go to the Women’s Cancer Coalition of Montezuma and Dolores Counties, which assist local women with financial assistance towards regular reproductive screenings and costs related to reproductive cancer.

Waters, who is on the board of the local Cancer Coalition, says she and other organizers are happy with the funds raised but an equally important aspect of the fundraiser is education.

“We’re raising money for the Women’s Cancer Coalition, but we’re also raising education and letting people know that there is an organization out there that helps local women which is just as important,” Waters said. “It’s really cool to see where it’s been and where it’s going. We’re already planning for next year.”
