A Farmington woman whose car went off U.S. Highway 160, west of Durango, required helicopter transport Wednesday morning after suffering injuries that left her in critical condition.
Colorado State Patrol Capt. Adrian Driscoll said a 2004 Chevy Silverado with New Mexico plates was headed east on U.S. Highway 160 when it went off the right shoulder around 11 a.m. between mile markers 65 and 66, near the Escalante Wayside historical marker.
The vehicle rolled multiple times down an embankment, coming to rest on its wheels, Driscoll said.
The driver, Courtney Ruybalid, suffered critical injuries. Driscoll did not have Ruybalid’s exact age, but said she was born in 1992.
A Flight for Life helicopter was called to take Ruybalid to Mercy Regional Medical Center, and the road was closed for about 15 minutes around 11:30 a.m. to allow the aircraft to land.
Driscoll said Ruybalid was wearing a seat belt, but both alcohol and drugs are suspected factors in the crash.
