Farmington woman dies in crash Monday

Incident occurred in front of Dollar General in Bloomfield

A 54-year-old Farmington woman died in a car crash Monday in front of the Dollar General in Bloomfield, according to the New Mexico State Police.

State Police spokesman Ray Wilson said in a statement that authorities responded to the fatal crash around 8 p.m. in front of the Dollar General located at 1001 East Broadway Blvd.

Investigators say a 2008 Dodge van was leaving the Dollar General parking lot, making a turn across the eastbound lanes of Broadway to head west on the road.

While crossing the eastbound lane, the van was struck by a 2003 GMC SUV headed east. After the initial crash, the GMC went into the westbound lane and was struck by a 1990 Honda Civic.

State Police said the driver of the Honda Civic, identified as Margarita Mossburg, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other two drivers were taken to a hospital for treatment.

State Police said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, and that all drivers involved in the incident were wearing seat belts.

It’s unclear if any charges were filed. The crash remained under investigation, according to State Police.

Wilson did not respond to requests for additional information this week.
