Farmington man arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder

A 45-year-old Farmington man was arrested Aug. 21 for allegedly shooting and killing a man near West Main Street.

The Farmington Police Department said in a news release that at about 8 p.m. Aug. 20, officers responded to a reported shooting near the intersection of West Main Street and Airport Drive.

A man identified as Johnny Davidson had called 911 and reported he had just shot someone, the Farmington Police Department said.

The victim was found with a single gunshot wound to the chest.

The man, identified as Justin Tapaha, 45, of Fruitland, New Mexico, was taken to San Juan Regional Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

Davidson was arrested Aug. 21 on suspicion of second-degree murder and shooting from a motor vehicle. He was taken to San Juan County Detention Center.

A spokeswoman with the Farmington Police Department said Monday the incident and possible motive remain under investigation.
