Farmington Electric Utility System launches design contest

Winner will receive $100 gift card to Target
The Farmington Electric Utility System launched a contest to design the car wrap for a new electric car.

FARMINGTON – The city of Farmington’s Electric Utility System has reached out to the youths of Farmington to see who can create the design for an electric car’s exterior wrap by way of a contest.

The Farmington Electric Utility System announced the contest Monday. According to contest rules, people younger than 18 can submit a graphic design that will be used on the vehicle’s exterior wrap, which is a car exterior design technique where an image or a design is printed and wrapped around the vehicle. According to a news release, FEUS planned to launch the contest last year before the vehicle was purchased in June 2020. Then the pandemic hit.

“This has been a tough year for everyone – especially our youths,” said Hank Adair, director of FEUS. “Students have been bravely navigating these past 12 months of modified education, no sports and missing out on time-honored school traditions. We decided to open the contest as we are beginning to emerge from this challenging time, providing youths an opportunity to showcase their creativity to the community.”

Farmington Municipal Schools could not be reached for comment about whether the schools would encourage students to participate in the contest.

The winner of the contest will receive a $100 gift card to Target and have their graphic incorporated into the wrap design.

The contest, called “Dress the LEAF,” so named for the make and model of the car, Nissan LEAF, is open to youths who live in the utility’s service area. Submissions can be hand-drawn or created with digital-art software and must be original. Any stock graphics will be denied.

Contest participants can enter more than one design.

The contest ends at 5 p.m. May 3. Winners will be announced May 18.
