Fairgrounds Speedway set to host races this weekend

Region’s top drivers, fireworks show highlight weekend racing at Cortez track
Races at the Fairgrounds will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Less than 24 hours after fireworks light up the sky on the Fourth of July, engines will roar at Fairgrounds Speedway during what promises to be another exciting rendition of dirt track stock car racing in Cortez.

The races, which will begin at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, will include several car classifications including Quarter Midgets, Mini Sprints, Dwarfs, Sport Compacts, Hobby Stocks, Stock Cars, SportMods and Modifieds. Each classification will include heat races and an A-Main.

The races, sanctioned by the International Motor Contest Association, include many of the top drivers in the Western Region. As always, competition will be tight, and paint will be traded as cars race around a slick track at the Montezuma County Fairgrounds.

In honor of the Fourth of July holiday, fireworks will be launched after the conclusion of the races on Saturday. Concessions will be available at the raceway and fans are encouraged to bring their children to the raceway’s family-friendly environment.

Adult tickets are $10, tickets for children between 6 and 13 are $6. A family pass that includes tickets for two adults and two children is $25.
