I am writing in response to the letter by Gene Taylor (“
Gene suggests that all those in favor of the (defeated) school bond issue should donate the funds that were lost. What Gene does not understand is that we live in a society where we all share the burdens of maintaining our community.
We also profit from these educational investments. We profit in a better educated population who can be more successful, we create a location to which good-paying businesses want to move, a stable educational workforce who will not move to better paying jobs elsewhere. With this funding, we could entice more good teachers, bus drivers, etc., to move here.
Does Gene feel that a 40% turnover in school personnel is a good thing?
I’m sure that whatever line of work we are all in, if we did not get proper raises that were commensurate with others in our profession that we would also change jobs or location.
I choose to live in a country where we pull together to raise each other up, not just see how much I can horde for myself.
