Escalante Days and Nights McAlister sets record for new course in bike race

Bikers take off in the annual Dolores Rotary Club Escalante Days race.

The Rotary Club of Dolores held the 17th annual mountain bike race on Saturday, August 8.

There were still 91 cyclists that came out to take part in the race on Saturday, even after a downpour of rain on Friday night.

Rotary Club President Chris Trusler noted that the 91 riders that competed on Saturday were an increase in participation from the previous year's event.

The 2015 race featured a new 35-mile expert course, and on his way to becoming the expert overall men's champion, Erich McAlister set the course record with a time of 2:03:55.

Sofia Gomez Villafone was named women's expert overall champion, finishing with a time of 2:26:15.

Kirby Bryant and Amie Bryant each won their second consecutive single speed championship, with Kirby finishing at 2:06:48 and Amie in 2:50:35.
