The Durango Herald and The Journal would have done its readers a service by publishing Friday’s cartoon above a letter in the Opinion section, in the July 17 edition. It was very bold for this letter writer to debunk the accurate and elaborate work of scientific research and analysis, accumulated over more than 150 years.
He doesn’t understand weather, he doesn’t understand climate. He maintains that global warming is not happening.
He said we have not seen it in our lifetimes and it will not occur in our children’s nor grandchildren’s lifetimes. Where has he been?
Ten and more years ago, the letters to the editor were full of such nonsense, all with no scientific backing and fabricated from ignorance. The writer suggests that we pay no heed to data that have been verified, give no regard to scientific research and analysis that is checked and rechecked, then finally published in refereed scientific journals.
He encourages us to clear our minds of the science. We can then substitute our own unfounded and ignorant ideas pulled from the internet – and we can turn and call real science a scam. Of course, there is also good and knowledgeable information on the internet, just check the sources and references.
