Eli Tomac of Cortez on Saturday won the 450 Supercross in Glendale, Arizona, to take the lead in the series standings and to overtake James Stewart for second place on the all-time win list.

It was Tomac’s sixth win of the year and his 51st all-time win in the 450cc class.

Tomac entered State Farm Stadium with a week off after beating Cooper Webb in Seattle on March 25 and drawing into a tie with Webb at 248 points. He left Arizona with a 7-point lead, 274 to 267.

Chase Sexton was second in Glendale, and Justin Barcia, Webb and Ken Roczen filled out the top five.

“It was a fantastic evening,” Tomac told NBC Sports’ Will Christien. “This is somewhat of a local race for me. We have so many friends and family out here. I always have good energy here. It was a very tough racetrack, one of the slicker ones we’ve raced on in a long time. It was fun. It was a different challenge.”

Tomac made a statement in the first of three motos in Glendale’s triple crown format, grabbing the lead in the first lap and leading Webb wire to wire. Barcia passed Roczen in Lap 3 for third place, and Sexton, who started eighth, passed Roczen for fourth place in the final of 13 laps.

In Moto 2, Tomac again started fast, and followed Sexton for all 13 laps to finish second, 3.742 seconds back. Roczen started third and finished third, ahead of Jason Anderson who started fourth. After a back-and-forth battle, Webb passed Barcia in the final lap for fifth place.

In Moto 3, Tomac again led wire to wire, leading Barcia all the way to the finish line and winning by 2.307 seconds. Sexton was third, and Webb and Roczen filled out the top five.
