Cooper Webb rode to a hard-fought victory on Saturday during Supercross’s Round 6 race at Ford Field in Detroit. It was Webb’s first win of the 2025 Supercross season.
This week’s race was notably absent of some key players: Eli Tomac and the Lawrence brothers, who are all out because of injury. Jett Lawrence recently underwent ACL surgery, and Hunter Lawrence will undergo shoulder surgery.
Tomac rode injured at the Round 5 race in Tampa, Florida, only to learn that he had broken his fibula. His injuries were originally thought to be a bruised calf and sprained ankle.
“Unfortunately, this was more than an ankle sprain and a bruised calf. After two days of pain not improving, I got additional scans on my leg, and I do have a broken fibula,” Tomac said. “This is such a bummer as I’ve never felt better on the motorcycle in Supercross and getting a win at San Diego was great. I don’t have an exact time frame of recovery at this time but will be working to come back as soon as possible.”
In the very eventful main event, Chase Sexton’s bike got caught in the gate as Aaron Plessinger led around the corner. Ken Roczen ended up claiming the hole shot as he slipped by Plessinger, but Plessinger stayed right on his heels. Plessinger took back the lead as Sexton crashed in last place.
Roczen passed Plessinger again, before Plessinger regained the lead. Jason Anderson and Webb battled in third before Webb passed.
Roczen trailed behind Plessinger, attempting to pass on the inside while Anderson and Webb pressured them from third and fourth place. Soon, Webb passed Plessinger on the outside, setting his sights on Roczen.
Lap traffic slowed Roczen, allowing Webb to get closer and in “attack mode” position. Sexton quickly moved from last to fourth, burning through a distance of four seconds in two laps to catch up to Anderson. Sexton passed Anderson for the third-place position.
Meanwhile, Webb and Roczen raced side by side over the whoops, but Roczen maintained the lead. Webb charged, passing Roczen to win his first victory of the 2025 season.
Roczen took second and Sexton third. Webb and Sexton are now tied at the top of the leader board for overall points with 121 points.
In the first heat, Justin Cooper claimed the hole shot with Dylan Ferrandis close behind in second. Ferrandis passed Cooper on the whoops. Though Cooper attempted to fight back, Ferrandis held on to the lead. Soon Anderson came “out of nowhere,” moving to first place, while Roczen moved to second. Cooper passed Ferrandis, but Ferrandis passed Cooper on the whoops.
Anderson took first, Roczen second and Cooper third.
In the heat two race, Plessinger took the hole shot position in front of second place rider Sexton. Justin Barcia and Webb battled, but Malcolm Stewart sneaked past them for third.
Sexton and Stewart both passed Plessinger. Webb and Plessinger battled for third.
Sexton won heat two, followed by Stewart and Webb.
Round 7 of Supercross will is Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
