Eli Tomac is sitting in second place halfway through the 2016 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship season.

At the midway point, the Cortez native has 240 points in the 450 Class standings and is just 53 points behind leader Ken Roczen.

Last year, Tomac won the two opening races of the season before going down in the third race at Thunder Valley National in Lakewood Colorado with season-ending injuries.

But he’s bounced back and is in the mix for a title.

In his return to Thunder Valley National in Lakewood this year – in the third race of the 2016 season – Tomac vanquished the ghosts of last year to finish in third place.

He’s also earned a fourth place finish at High Point National in Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania and third place finishes at the Hangtown Motocross Classic in Sacramento, California and Glen Helen National in San Bernardino, CA.

Tomac had his top finishes in his last two races, taking second at the Tennessee National in Blountville, Tennessee on June 25 and second at the Redbud National in Buchanan, Michigan last Saturday.

With six races down and six to go, Tomac will aim to keep his momentum moving forward in his next race on Saturday, July 9 at Southwick National in Southwick, Massachusetts.
