I am in complete agreement with a guest column on April 14, admonishing the city for not removing legal roadblocks, which hinder worthwhile and needed projects like converting the Adventure Inn on Main Avenue in Durango to transitional housing for those people deemed to have a reasonable chance of success for transitioning out of homelessness.
The zoning code should be immediately amended to allow motels to offer such transitional housing as a matter of right, wherever located to foreclose the NIMBY outcry.
Helping the homeless should be more than lip service. We are either a caring community or we are not. Let’s show we care.
