The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office has announced that the Colorado Bureau of Investigation has identified remains found during a search near Vallecito Reservoir this week as Dylan Redwine’s.
A variety of items, including bones, were collected during a five-day search of Middle Mountain, which is located north and within sight of Vallecito Lake. The search area ranges from 8,000 to 11,000 feet in elevation and consists of deep canyons and forests.
About 45 personnel from law enforcement and search-and-rescue organizations worked more than 1,600 person hours during hte five-day search, which concluded Wednesday afternoon.
A La Plata County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said the searches were not based on any recent tips nor new information but were part of a series of follow-up searches conducted in the Vallecito area after snow melted this spring.
Dylan Redwine arrived at Durango-La Plata County airport on Nov. 18, 2012, and was picked up by his father, Mark Redwine, for a court-ordered Thanksgiving visit. Elaine Redwine, Dylan’s mother, reported him missing to the sheriff’s office the next day.
