A 19-year-old woman is accused of drunken driving and causing a three-vehicle crash Thursday near 25th Street and Main Avenue in Durango.
Nezhoni Mae Patton, 19, of Durango was arrested on suspicion of two counts of vehicular assault, obstructing a peace officer, drunken driving, reckless driving, illegal consumption of alcohol and driving without a valid drivers license, according to Durango police.
The crash occurred around 9:45 a.m. when a van traveling north on Main Avenue attempted to turn left onto 25th Street.
A speeding sedan allegedly driven by Patton was traveling south and struck the rear-end of the van, sending the van spinning, said Durango police Cmdr. Jacob Dunlop.
The sedan then veered into the northbound lane and struck a truck that was pulling a trailer head-on, Dunlop said.
The van and the truck each had a single occupant, but the sedan had a driver and a passenger, he said.
The passenger in the sedan was identified as a 27-year-old man from New Mexico. He suffered serious bodily injury, especially to his face, Dunlop said.
Traffic in the northbound lane was reduced to one lane for about 2½ hours, according to Durango police.
The Colorado State Patrol and Durango Fire Protection District assisted DPD.
