Durango Police investigate alleged kidnapping, sex assault

Incident reported early Sunday morning

The Durango Police Department is investigating an alleged kidnapping and sexual assault that occurred Sunday morning.

Cmdr. Ray Shupe said police received a call from a woman about 2:18 a.m. Sunday who said she was abducted in the 800 block of Narrow Gauge Avenue.

The victim told police the incident happened between 1:30 a.m. and 2:15 a.m.

She allegedly got into a vehicle described as a white, newer model four-door pickup, Shupe said.

“She described it as a nice, clean truck with chrome wheels,” he said. “She was in that area looking for a ride; that’s how she got into the vehicle.”

Shupe said the sexual assault allegedly involved five men and happened inside the vehicle as they drove around the county.

“She was eventually dropped off south of Farmington Hill on U.S. Highway 550,” he said.

He declined to be more specific about the incident, citing an open investigation.

Police have not yet identified any suspects, Shupe said.

Anyone with information about the incident should call detective Chris Thomson at 375-4732.
