Durango ‘must offer what retirees need’

There have been problems with obtaining post-surgery care upon discharge from Mercy Hospital for Medicare patients.

These patients are discharged far from the time they recover from surgery to sufficiently manage at home. And there are no facilities I can find to provide in-home or inpatient care for such people in Durango.

These patients have to rely on family or friends for assistance. And sometimes that assistance does not exist. In other areas, skilled nursing homes provide that assistance for a time on Medicare. If there are such facilities in Durango, I can’t find them (and neither can personnel at Mercy).

Durango is become a “move to” destination for retired people. If it wants to remain a destination for retirees, it must offer what retirees need.
