Durango Mall could use bowling alley, roller rink

As the Durango Mall tenants have dwindled over the years, there have been a few new ideas mentioned from time to time for this location. Unfortunately, not much has happened.

Supposedly Hobby Lobby is moving into the JCPenney location in the near future.

Some may or may not know, that when the mall originally opened years ago, it had an 18-lane bowling alley that appeared to always be busy. It eventually closed.

With the population growth and folks looking for additional recreational activities, more so during the winter months – especially our younger folks – it may be a good idea for someone to reconsider this.

Of course, the Sky Ute Casino has an excellent top notch bowling facility in Ignacio, which appears to stay fairly busy.

At one time, Farmington had three but now only one. But the facility has expanded over the years with additional lanes.

Or a roller skating rink. At one time Farmington, had four and is now down to one.

As Durango continues to grow, especially to the south, there will be more of a demand for such recreation activities.

Just a thought.
