Snowdown has not been all fun and games so far this year – at least not for the seven people who were arrested by Durango police officers for driving under the influence over the weekend.
That’s about twice as many DUI arrests as the department’s officers made in each of the previous two weekends.
And if drivers were competing to blow the highest score on the Breathalyzer, a driver caught with a 0.311% blood alcohol content level took first place, according to a post on the Durango Police Department’s Facebook page.
Two other drivers were caught with BACs of 0.173% and 0.159%. Anyone with a BAC over 0.08% is considered impaired by default in Colorado.
No one was injured in any of the incidents that led to DUI arrests over the weekend, DPD’s Administrative Analyst McKenzie Perdue said.
Typically, Snowdown is one of the department’s busiest times of year. During last year’s festivities, officers made 15 DUI arrests. DPD is beefing up staffing Friday in advance of the Light Parade, Perdue said.
In the department’s Facebook posts, the department noted that public transportation is free Wednesday through Saturday this week.
