Durango and Telluride bookend Forbes’ list

Adults and kids were out in force enjoying the warm temperatures on Saturday afternoon at Purgatory Ski Resort. The ski area isn’t exactly in Durango; nevertheless, Forbes magazine named Durango to its list of top 10 ski towns.

Durangoans are going to be walking around with swollen heads if the accolades keep rolling in for our fair city.

Forbes magazine named our fair city one of the “Top 10 Ski Towns in America,” with half of the Top 10 located in Colorado.

Durango came in at No. 10. Telluride earned bragging rights after gaining the top spot, followed by Park City, Utah; Steamboat Springs; Jackson Hole, Wyoming; Aspen; Stateline, Nevada, and South Lake Tahoe, California; Breckenridge; Ketchum and Sun Valley, Idaho; and the lone Eastern entry, Stowe, Vermont.

The descriptions of Durango are not necessarily correct, “where mock “gunfights” break out several times a week in the period Diamond Belle Saloon” and the city located as “the gateway to the Native American ruins of Chaco Canyon.”

But the mentions of “the nation’s most famous historic narrow gauge railroad,” Purgatory, San Juan Untracked and Silverton Mountain are purely complimentary.
