Duece Anjelus Martinez, 18, was arrested Thursday morning on a warrant for new charges directly following his latest court appearance.

He was released from jail last week after his bail was lowered from $10,000 to $5,000, and the warrant was issued Tuesday.

According to the Cortez Police Department’s Crime Watch website, Martinez was arrested for allegedly committing third-degree assault, domestic violence, theft of more than $300 and for violating a protection order.

He currently has multiple other cases pending in both Montezuma and Archuleta Counties.

On Wednesday, Cortez police issued a warrant for Martinez’s girlfriend Lillian Fay Uptain, 19, who is the protected party in Martinez’s protection order violations. The warrant for Uptain is still active, and police describe her as white, about 4-foot-6 and weighing 80 pounds. She has brown hair and blue eyes, according to police.

Anyone with information on Uptain’s whereabouts can contact Cortez police at 970-565-8441 or through the Crimewatch mobile app or online at cortezpd.org.

Martinez’s next court date has not been updated on the docket website when this story was filed.

On June 13, Cortez police responded to a domestic violence call on Harrison Street. Uptain told police that Martinez had pulled her hair, punched her and pushed her onto the floor during a fight.

Police contacted Martinez just a few days later on June 16 when he was pulled over while driving a vehicle with a blown-out tire. Once he was pulled over, officer Vance Carver found multiple alcohol containers in the vehicle, adding that Martinez’s eyes were blood shot and that his breath smelled of alcohol.

He was also found to be driving with a suspended license and in violation of a court order that prohibited him from possessing or drinking alcohol.

He was released on a $500 cash surety bond on July 2, but was arrested five days later on a warrant from Archuleta County for failing to appear in court and violating a protection order.

Before his arrest, he was found with Uptain in a vehicle at Hawkins Preserve in Cortez.
