Drunken driving suspected in rollover near Cortez landfill

Man extricated from car; no serious injuries reported

The Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office and a Colorado state trooper extricated a man trapped in his car near the Montezuma County Landfill after a single-vehicle rollover about 6:36 p.m. Friday.

The man – the driver and only person in the car – was responsive, and was suspected to be intoxicated, Montezuma County Sheriff Steve Nowlin said.

He will be investigated for a DUI, said Colorado State Patrol Master Trooper Gary Cutler.

The crash occurred near the intersection of Road G and Road 25, and the car slipped into an embankment off the road, Cutler said. The man, 28, was extricated about 7:30 p.m.

According to an initial report, the man wasn’t thought to have serious injuries, Cutler said.
