Dove Creek volleyball team suffers losses

Bulldogs fall to 2-2 after road losses

After opening its season with two consecutive victories, the Dove Creek High School volleyball team kicked off September with two tough losses.

The first of those losses came in a road matchup against De Beque on Sept. 1 when the Bulldogs lost, 26-28, 17-25, 25-12, 20-25.

Senior Faith Johnson and junior Breea Meyer each recorded five kills in the match, while senior Marissa Hatfield led Dove Creek in digs with seven. Cassie Gatlin was especially impressive from the service line as the sophomore recorded five aces.

Dove Creek’s second loss of September came in a road matchup against Monument Valley (Utah) on Sept. 5 when the Bulldogs lost a hotly contested five-set match, 24-26, 12-25, 26-24, 25-20, 17-19.

Dove Creek played on the road against Ignacio after The Journal’s news deadline on Sept. 7. The Bulldogs’ next contest will take place on the road against Shiprock (New Mexico) Northwest High School on Sept. 12.
