Dolores volleyball team stays hot with victory over Ouray

Sophomore Erin Brown hammers down 15 kills during Bears’ convincing three-set win

With its regular season winding down, the Dolores High School volleyball team is riding a 14-match win streak.

Dolores’ latest victory came against Ouray High School on Oct. 19 when the team utilized a diverse offensive attach and impressive team-defense to register a dominant 25-8, 25-12, 25-15 victory.

Among the Lady Bears’ outstanding performers in the match was sophomore Erin Brown, who was nearly unstoppable from her outside-hitter position while registering a 15 kills and 10 digs.

Also factoring heavily into the Dolores offense were senior Taylor Elder, who had eight kills, and junior Sydney Smith, who had six. Junior Akira Edwards led Dolores with five aces, and Smith was credited with four.

Edwards was credited with 11 digs, and freshman Kristen Kemp and sophomore Carlie McClellan tied for the team lead in assists with 13.

Dolores improved to 14-3 overall and 10-0 in the San Juan Basin League with the victory. Ouray dropped to 0-11 overall and 0-8 in the SJBL.

The Lady Bears now go on the road, against Ignacio on Oct. 22 and against Telluride on Oct. 26.
