Dolores volleyball takes down Ignacio, 3-0

The Ignacio Bobcats couldn’t get anything going Thursday night against the Dolores Bears.

Dolores (5-1, 3-0) downed Ignacio 25-16, 25-18, 25-12 to send the Bobcats to a 1-4 overall record and 1-3 mark in the 2A/1A San Juan Basin League.

Makayla Howell led Ignacio with 10 kills.

Jordan Elder and Tatum Majors each had six kills to lead the Bears. Majors also had two strong serving streaks, accumulating 11 points off serves, and posted eight digs on the night.

Morgan Herrera had two aces for the Bobcats, while Elder, Abby Jones and Sierra Schwartz each had two for Dolores. Herrera also had a match-high six blocks for Ignacio.

Schwartz had nine digs for Dolores, and Herrera led IHs with seven. Shoshone Thompson had six digs.

Jones led Dolores with 18 assists, and Marisa Carmenoros led IHS in assists with 11.

The Dolores varsity volleyball team won Saturday’s home conference match against Nucla by a score of 3-0.

Dolores next plays conference rival Mancos on the road on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 4 p.m. Since 2004, Dolores has a posted a 48-41-0 record against Mancos in the Montezuma County rivalry.
