Dolores track athletes compete at state

Jordan Elder places eighth; Hufman 16th

Warming up prior to the Colorado State High School Track and Field Championships in Lakewood on May 17, members of the Dolores High School track teams seemed intent on making their final competition of the year a memorable one.

By the time that the competition concluded on May 19, the athletes that attended the meet had seemingly accomplished their goal, thanks to several solid performances.

Leading the way for the girls’ team was Jordan Elder, who placed eighth in the long jump (15 feet, 7½ inches) and 16th in the 200-meter dash (27.50). The sophomore also participated in her team’s 4x200-meter relay, which finished 12th with a time of 1:53.17.

Also competing individually for the girls’ team was senior Sierra Schwartz, who capped her impressive prep track career with a 13th-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (17.45).

The Dolores girls finished 37th as a team with two total points. Highland High School finished atop the girls’ standings with 75.50 points.

On the boys’ side, Dolores was represented by junior distance star Phillip Hufman, who looked strong throughout the 3200-meter run and placed 16th (10:44.00).

The Dolores boys did not score for purposes of the team competition. Resurrection Christian finished first in the 2A Class with 63 points.
