Doug Aiken has been selected to replace Ed Merritt Jr., as president of The Dolores State Bank, according to board chairman Dewayne Findley.

Larry Engel will fill Aiken’s job of executive vice president, Findley said in a news release. Merritt recently retired after 41 years with the bank.

Aiken and Engel are Montezuma County natives. Aiken, who holds a degree from the University of Colorado Boulder, worked at First National Bank in Cortez before joining The Dolores State Bank in 1982.

Engel holds degrees from Colorado State University and Texas Tech University and has worked at The Dolores State Bank for 13 years, Findley said. Previously, he was employed by Texas National Bank, Valley National Bank and Vectra Bank Colorado in Cortez.

Other recent promotions include Darlene Wiemer and Shawna Valdez to vice president and Tammy Beanland, Daniel Giannone and Rita Weitzel to assistant vice president.

The Dolores State Bank is the largest locally owned community bank in Montezuma County, Findley said, and has four branches in the county and a loan production office in Telluride. Under the new leadership, the bank will continue to meet the customer’s needs with the same commitment to excellent service.

The bank’s board of directors is composed of Findley, Kevin Lovett, Merritt, Aiken and Engel.
