The Dolores Ski Swap returns to town on Dec. 10 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Dolores High School Commons.
Bring your winter sports gear to the Commons on Dec. 9 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sellers provide the price.
A 15% commission from all sold items will benefit Dolores Schools boys and girls cross-country teams.
Pick up unsold items on Dec. 10 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. All items not picked up will be considered donations.
Any winter sport gear is welcome, including clothing, jackets, boots, skis, poles, snowboards, snowshoes, ice skates, gloves, goggles and hats.
The ski swap is a Dolores tradition but has been canceled the past two years because of the coronavirus pandemic.
“We’re starting it back up, and if it’s successful, it could be an annual event again,” said organizer Kim Parr. “The town misses it. We’re hoping for a good turnout.”
Dunn Deal Resale store of Durango will sell used winter gear.
The Telluride ski pass booth will not be at the swap this year, but the resort said it plans to be there for next year’s swap, Parr said.
Funds raised will help the high school and middle school cross-country teams go to summer training camps and cover costs of gear and travel to meets.
“We are improving, small but mighty,” said Parr. “We want to continue to build, and would like to get more runners to the state tournament.”
She said unlike other school sports, cross-country teams have to pay to compete in competitions.
