The Dolores RE-4A school district has recently announced that they have been awarded a $850,000 grant from the Department of Homeland Security. This grant, which is for disaster relief, will help the district with “flood mitigation measures” on the school’s campus.
According to a presentation from The Artaic Group’s Matt Prinster at Dolores’s March school board meeting, 50% of Dolores’s current school campus and 90% of the upcoming project are in a flood plain.
The issues caused by the flood plain are many, including the flooding of the school’s gym a few years ago. Some potential solutions have been discussed, including flood gates or retention walls around new buildings.
The grant application was submitted by The Artaic Group and Tom Engle from Goff Engineering on behalf of the Dolores school district.
“The grant, in the amount of $850,000, will mitigate the ever-present drainage issues on the north side of our campus,” the district said.
