Dolores River Anglers announces summer and fall events

Public invited to meetings, fishing programs
The Dolores River Anglers Chapter of Trout Unlimited has many events planned for summer and fall.

The Dolores River Anglers Chapter of Trout Unlimited has summer activities and meetings planned, and is encouraging anyone interested in fishing to attend.

“We’re raising awareness of our organization and want to spread the word about our programs and all the great fishing opportunities here,” said organizer Dale Smith. Here is a schedule of events:

Aug. 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Riverside Park on Colorado Highway 145 in Dolores, there will be a free cookout and fishing clinic during the Dolores Escalante Days. Learn how to select and rig a fly rod for fishing. Learn how to cast and read water and find fish. Afterwards, there will be a fishing trip.. The board of directors meets at 9:30 a.m., the cookout is at 11 a.m., and the fishing clinic will be from noon to 2 p.m.On Aug. 24, the Dolores River Anglers will host a chapter fishing trip to fish the upper San Miguel River. Anglers will meet in the parking lot at Joe Rowell Park in Dolores at 8 a.m. Some anglers will return to Dolores by 4 p.m. Bring a sack lunch.Sept. 30, the Dolores River Anglers will meet at the Wild Edge Brewing Collaborative in Cortez. The DRA board of directors will meet at 5:30 p.m., there’s a meet-and-greet at 6:30 p.m. and program at 7 p.m. This will be the annual business meeting and election. The program will feature the “State of the Chapter” and “Show and Tell.” Bring your best fishing photo or fishing story.Two prizes will be awarded: a prize for best photo and story and a prize for the best story. If you don’t have a photo, tell the best fishing story.

Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. will be the annual cleanup at Twin Spruce Ponds Fishing Lease Wildlife Area on Colorado Highway 145.
