Dolores Ranger District seeks comments on proposed Salter vegetation project

The U.S. Forest Service seeks public input about the proposed Salter Vegetation Management Project on the Dolores Ranger District of the San Juan National Forest northeast of Dolores.

Proposed treatment areas are in the vicinity of Salter Y, Plateau Creek, Carlyle Point, Turkey Knoll and Boggy Draw.

This project was proposed to improve or maintain the resistance and resiliency of ponderosa pine forest ecosystems, increase the diversity of ponderosa pine forest ecosystem and provide economic support to local communities by providing timber products in a sustainable manner. The Salter Vegetation Management project proposes treatment on 35,000 acres of ponderosa pine forest.

The 30-day scoping comment period begins Feb. 21. Electronic comments may be submitted online at www.fs.usda.gov/project/?project=57671.
