Dolores Mountain Quilters have announced Pam Hart of Mancos a this year’s quilt raffle winner. The drawing was held Oct. 10 at the Dolores Community Center during a socially distanced quilt retreat.

When the 2020 Dolores Mountain Quilters Quilt Show was canceled in August because of COVID-19, the Cortez Quilt and Durango Quilt companies displayed the quilt during the raffle. Dolores Mountain Quilters members also stepped up to sell tickets on their own or behind plexiglass and face masks at alternate events. Peggy Youngs and Sheryl Merritt organized sales events and enlisted volunteers. All 4,500 raffle tickets sold, a news release said.

The raffle quilt pattern – Twisted Star – was designed by Judy Niemeyer. Laura Wright found the pattern, and Judith Swain worked with Wright on fabric purchase. Wright cut kits for members to sew at home and organized two sewing days. Participants included Pam Hart, Linda Erickson, Mary Lou Welch, Suzanne Butterfield, Jeannie Miles and Wright.

Linda Jahraus, LaWana Ferrier and Jetta Samulski did the hand appliqué. Wright then took the parts and made it whole. Longarm quilting was completed by Wright, and binding was finished at a quilt retreat.
