A fair number of rafts are expected to participate in the Dolores River Raft Races this year according to Wesley Fowler of the Montezuma Jaycees, with five rafts signed up at mid week. About $50 in prize money, depending upon the number of entrants, will go to first place with cash prizes being distributed down to third place. The race will start at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, from the Stoner Bridge and will continue on down the Dolores River to the Fourth Street Bridge at Dolores Another of the interesting new events being planned for Frontier Days this year is a Log Rolling Contest that will be held in the pond at the town park on the east end of town. Loggers on the log longer than anyone else will have the chance to show their skill.

Bill Binnian, whose home town is Grand Junction and who just graduated from Colorado State University at Fort Collins, will be arriving in Dolores on July 1 to take over the position of Vocational Agriculture Instructor. Chuck Green recently resigned from this position in order to go into farming on a full time basis.

Amealia Fry and Charles Melvin, teachers at Dolores High School, have been chosen outstanding secondary educators of America for 1974. Nominated by their administrators earlier this year, they were selected for the honor on the basis of professional and civic achievements.

The monthly meeting of the Dolores River Garden Club will be held Tuesday, June 11, at the home of Mrs. Edna Seitz.

The Colorado State Patrol this week released accident figures for this area during the month of May, with totals of 20 accidents, 11 injuries and one fatality, making a total for the year of 101 accidents, 31 injuries and 2 fatalities.

Mrs. Opal Phillips is here from Cashmere, Washington, visiting at the homes of her daughters and families, Mr. and Mrs. Paul McCall and family of Cortez and Mr. and Mrs. John Sturdevant and family of Stoner. She plans to stay until about mid-June when she will return home accompanied by three of her grandchildren who will visit with her for about a month.
