During 1974 and 1975, Mountain Bell will invest nearly $1.5 million in the Cortez area to upgrade and improve the quality of telephone service, according to Gel Bessey, local exchange manager.

Shirley Jacques, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Jacques of this community earned the right to go to the National High School Rodeo to be held from Aug. 5 to 11 at Tomah, Wisconsin following the State High School Rodeo held in Adams County last weekend.

The Dolores Chamber of Commerce, on Wednesday of this week, made the final payment on the bank note covering the mortgage on the Montezuma Water Company Building according to Chamber Secretary Cecile Taylor. When the water company was first formed, the Chamber played an important part in getting them to locate in Dolores by offering to pay half the purchase price of a building which suited their needs. The Chamber would like to extend special thanks to the Dolores State Bank for the cooperation and help extended them and to the businessmen who helped support the program.

Fun, excitement and prizes are promised in Dolores this weekend as citizens welcome visitors to the first annual Frontier Days, a two-day celebration starting off early Saturday morning and continuing through Sunday. Events include a Black Powder Shoot and a horse race which starts from the top of Lost Canyon Hill and ends at the Town Park. Also expected is a flea market, barbecue, parade, sheep dog contest, watermelon eating contest, penny toss, greased pole climb, log cutting contest, women's spike driving contest, Sadie Hawkins Day Race and a log rolling contest.

Mr. and Mrs. Jackie Biard and family had dinner with the Perkins family a week ago Saturday

Mrs. Margaret Felkins, Lee Stephen's mother, has been here visiting for the past week. Lee left Tuesday morning to drive her back to her home in Sacramento, Calif.

The Bill Raglands had a family gathering at their home to celebrate their anniversary, Barbara's birthday, and Fathers Day. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Bradley Johnson and Justin, Mr. and Mrs. Doug Ragland and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bolus and Lori.

Paul Abadie and son, Brent, arrived from New Orleans Sunday afternoon and will spend some time visiting with Mrs. Lois Rash and other relatives here in Dolores. Mrs. Abandie and daughter have been here for the past three weeks visiting with her mother, Lois Rash.

Mrs. Lois Rash entertained with a delicious oyster dinner at her home honoring the Paul Abadie family who are guests in her home.

Bill Bowden's birthday was celebrated Friday with dinner at Marcello's. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bowden, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bowden and Shelley and Betty Bowden.
