Building plan discussed at school board meet
The regular meeting of the Board of Education of the Dolores District Re4A was called to order at 8 p.m. Thursday night with all board members resent. Also present were teachers Stowe, Melvin, Thompson, and representatives from the senior class Kathy Hoffman, Eddie Reynolds, Joel Maxcy, Harold Ragland, Arthur Jackson and Laurie Ryan.
The group of seniors got permission to change the senior trip from spring vacation to March 4 to 9. The itinerary for the trip to Denver was accepted by the board.
The board passed a resolution to increase the prices of school lunches beginning the first of the year to 30c for elementary, 35c for high school and 50c for adults.
They also talked about a building program and decided that they would look at some possible building plans to accommodate the programs of home-ec, science, art, and music and would do some intensive planning during the next two months to determine needs plans and alternatives.
The district was presented with a subdivision plan for the River Acres subdivision. This was turned over to lawyer George Armstrong who will develop a formula for determining how much land or money the district could or would take. Money or land goes into escrow and can be used only for building purposes. This formula will be applied to all future subdivisions. The formula should be ready for the next meeting Dec. 20.
A representative from the Colorado State Board of Community Colleges and Occupational Education was here Nov. 6 to evaluate the career education project and according to a report given the board, gave the district quite a good report on the project. He said it was progressing nicely and was one of the better ones in the state.
The gym floor will be finished Nov. 20 with only the metal edging now remaining to be installed.
The board decided to erect lights on the tennis courts in order that it can be used for ice-skating this winter.
