Connie Paxton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Paxton, was named Homecoming Queen at ceremonies held at the half-time of the Mancos-Dolores football game Friday night. The senior attendants were Coline McEwen and Esther Speer. In the parade, winners were the teachers float, which featured a dragon, the 8th-grade float with Bears turning over an outhouse and the Juniors 'float. The teachers declined to accept the prize money.

Summit Ridge Amusement Company on 4th Street in Dolores has been broken into twice in the past two weeks according to Town Marshal Charlie Aragon. In the first break-in about two weeks ago, a bottle of liquor was taken and it has been found in the home of a juvenile. Marshal Aragon reported that it was broken into again on Monday night of this week with the following items stolen: 5 watches, one roll of quarters and one roll of dimes. The case is still under investigation.

Mrs. Wesley Wallace was flown to Denver last Saturday where she underwent surgery at Colorado General Hospital on Sunday. Sherry is still in intensive care at this time, but is reportedly some improved. Her mother Midge Goldsworthy from Longmont is helping take care of the younger children while their other grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wallace have the older ones.

Out of State license plates are a common sight in Dolores this week with the annual influx of big game hunters. Camp trailers and tents are going up all over the high country with many prospective hunters scouting out the game. The regular elk season opens tomorrow morning, Saturday, Oct. 12 and runs through Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Students and teachers of Dolores Schools will have a holiday Monday, Oct. 14 to allow those who hunt, the first three days of the season.

The annual Fall Harvest Home Festival at the United Methodist Church has been set for Wednesday evening. Oct. 16 beginning with a Potluck Fellowship Supper at 6:30 o'clock, according to Glenn Lawrence, pastor.

Praising Senate passage today of an amendment to the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act of 1964, Senator Peter H. Dominick (R-Colo.) said, "A serious error has at last been corrected. Segments of twelve Colorado rivers can now be studied to determine if they can be included in the National Wild Rivers System, thus preserving them for the enjoyment of future generations."

A dinner party for Mr. and Mrs. Mory Plumlee was held last Wednesday honoring the couple on their 48th wedding anniversary. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Bud Becher and Ed, and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Kirk and daughters. Following the dinner the group returned to the Kirk residence for anniversary cake and were joined there by Dave and Steve Becher and their families.

Don Brewer and Chuck Melvin, teachers in Dolores High School, flew to Denver on Saturday where they attended a Colorado Educators Meeting for small schools throughout the state. Brewer was elected to executive council to represent this area.

Jean and Larry Johnson went to Ft. Collins last week to visit with Jean's daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mitchell and family. They saw the CSU-BYU football game while they were there.
