Spectacular new events are being planned to make the two-day Frontier Days here on Saturday and Sunday, June 22-23 the most outstanding ever held with black powder shooting matches, flea market and a suicide race among the leading attractions. Mrs. Sue Anderson is general Chairman of the event.

A longtime rancher and pioneer of this country died May 16 at the age of 73. Lowell Truelsen, known to many in the area, passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital after being in ill health for several years. Lowell Truelsen was born August 10, 1891, in Sargent, Nebraska to George and Mary Truelsen. He moved to Montezuma County from Loup City, Nebraska in 1907, coming to Dolores on an immigrant train and settling in the Goodman Point area. He is a graduate of Mancos High School and attended Colorado A and M for two years. He was a veteran of World War I where he served in the 12th Aero Squadron. In 1920 he was married to Olive Robinson in Cortez. Mrs. Truelsen survives him and resides at the family home up the river from Dolores.

Services will be held today, Friday, May 24 at 2 p.m. for Eddie Hoxsie, formerly of Summit Ridge. Rev. David Wallace of Cortez Presbyterian Church will officiate with graveside services by Ute Mountain American Legion Post No. 75 at the Cortez Cemetery.

Mrs. Florence Daly and Mr. Doyle Frank have been chosen Outstanding Elementary teachers of America for 1974. Nominated by administrators and teachers earlier this year, they were selected for this honor on that basis and civic achievements.

Deborah Stephens and David Wesch, both graduates of Dolores High School, were named to the Dean's List for the winter term at Ft. Lewis College.

Mr. and Mrs. Pat Marman and two children will be moving into the house on South 8th Street formerly occupied by the Woody Berry family on June 1. The Marmans are from Boulder and he is a nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Squires.

Mr. and Mrs. Corky McClain were in Farmington Saturday on business. The children stayed with Hazel Smith while they were gone.

Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Lee entertained with pinochle on Saturday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Don McQuaid, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Porter, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cline Sr., Mary Jane McRae, Callie Lofquist, Hazel Smith and Helen Fogel. Homa Cline and JIm Porter won prizes for the highest scores of the evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Hamilton and children, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hamilton and Bill Hamilton enjoyed a fish fry at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Hamilton on Wednesday evening of last week.
