Town Board members approved on first reading an ordinance for improvements and expansion of the town water pumping and treating facilities. The bonds amounting to $60,000 will be purchased by the Dolores State Bank at 6.5 percent interest rate. New facilities will provide for additional filters and a pumping unit will provide for peak use during the summer in addition to added treatment for Montezuma Rural Water Co. and will also have a 25 percent excess capacity over the anticipated peak load.

Mrs. Amy D. Thompson, Home Economics teacher at Dolores High School received notification this week that she has been nominated as candidate for "State Mother of the Year." The standards that must be met by nominees for State Mother are set by the American Mothers Committee.

A handmade hooked rug will be given away during half time at the Bears vs. Pagosa Springs Pirates basketball game in Dolores Friday evening, Feb. 7. The rug features a Bear in the center with DHS Bears around the edge.

Gloria Sturman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Sturman, has been named Dolores H. S. 1974-75 Betty Crocker Family Leader of Tomorrow.

The Hesperus ski area, formerly owned by the Hare brothers, has been sold to Wallace Kerlee of Durango. He has upgraded and improved the equipment and it is now in operation very day except Mondays.

Joe Zoline has asked townspeople in Telluride to give him a financial hand in getting the Coonskin lift constructed. He has devised a plan which would raise $400,000 for purchase and erection of the lift. This lift would have its bottom terminal in Telluride.

Gulf Oil Company, U.S. and Jack Grynberg and Associates, Denver independent oil producers, have begun a joint venture to drill some 15 wildcat oil wells on 140,000 acres in Paradox Basin of southwestern Colorado.

Enrollment in the Cortez School District Re-1 Schools continues to hover near the 3,000 mark, standing at 2,957 as of Jan. 17.

Morley Ballantine, co-publisher of the Durango Herald, has been appointed by Governor Richard Lamm to represent Southwestern Colorado on the Colorado Land Use Commission.

Dr. Robert H. Carlson has just passed the examination for becoming a Diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice. The tests took two days and covered all phases of medical care.

Mr. and Mrs. Rod Holton of Littleton, Colo. are the proud new parents of a baby boy born on Thursday, Jan. 30. He weighed 7 lb. 9 oz. and has been named Aaron. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Bill Fischer of Dolores. Paternal grandparents are William Holton of Denver and Mrs. Sydney Holton of Trinidad.

Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Randall were here for the weekend visiting at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bel Randall. They live in Denver.

Charles Lincoln and David Dow were among those from this area attending the 114th annual Grand Lodge in Denver last week.

Wilson and Stella Lancaster visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lincoln on Monday evening.
